Why choose our infusion centers?

Infusion therapy for arthritis and connective tissue diseases is an alternative for patients for whom traditional oral medications have failed to provide relief. This is also the case with several other medical conditions and we work many medical specialties to help provide this care through our center.

Our infusion centers allow patients to receive the infusible or injectable therapy they need in a comfortable and familiar environment. Our centers are run by compassionate and highly trained nurses with a nurse practitioner or physician onsite.

What is needed for the infusion therapy referral?

  • If a new patient comes to the practice or for an established patient in the practice…
    • The following documents must be faxed to our infusion department from your practice: 
      • Medication Rx –  medication, dose and instruction on how given (renewed annual) 
      • Last infusion note if previously infused at a different infusion center.
      • Recent lab work (in the last 6 months)
      • Most recent provider chart note (in the last 6 months)
  • If there are insurance changes, please remind your patients to call the office immediately and be prepared to fax over required documents.

What should your patients expect during their infusion?

  • The healthcare team will check your patients weight, vital signs and ask questions about their health.
    • How are they feeling?  Are there any new infections? Is there any recent antibiotic use?
    • Any recent or planned procedures or surgery? Including but not limited to dermatologic, dental or ophthalmologic.
  • After the check-up, some infusion protocols may require premedication with corticosteroids, antihistamine and anti-fever medication

  • Duration may be as short as 30min to as long as 4-5 hrs.
  • Your patient will be in a supportive chair with all your belongings 
  • Patients can have personal entertainment on hand and snacks to help pass the time.  
  • Once settled an IV infusion needle will be placed and connected to an infusion pump.
  • If an infusion reaction occurs, the healthcare team may slow or stop the infusion.  If severe reactions occur, the infusion will be stopped, the patient will receive medications for treatment of symptoms and possible transfer to the hospital for monitoring.

Most infusion or injection therapy in the infusion center will not require post infusion monitoring but the healthcare team will notify the patient if needed.
